Torba Acida di Sfagno results from the partial transformation of sphagnum moss under the prolonged absence of oxygen over hundreds of years. Sphagnum moss grows in very rainy areas where salt-free rainwater constantly flushes minerals from the surface of the peat bog, making it more acidic. Its ability to make compact soil permeable and loose soil stable means it ideal as an improver for flower or vegetable garden soil, making it easier to prepare the soil and grow plants. Adding peat to soil increases the amount of organic matter, which is necessary for creating a more stable structure favourable to plant growth.
